The fate of six candidates vying for the three Bersatu vice-presidency posts in the party election will be decided in divisional meetings taking place today.
Two incumbents, namely Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee and Putrajaya MP Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, are attempting to defend their positions, while deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu is also looking to secure one of the seats.
The other three candidates are Selangor Bersatu deputy chief Mohd Rafiq Mohd Abdullah, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, and Batu Kawan Bersatu chief Aziss Zainal Abiddin.
However, the outcome of the vice-presidency race is only expected to be unveiled tomorrow morning, or by Monday at the latest, depending on objections.
According to the Bersatu Election Committee, this is due to the voting process that will continue until tonight and be followed by a meeting.
Also being contested are positions in Bersatu’s supreme council and the party’s divisional leadership posts for the 2024-2027 term, which has been speculated to involve two factions: one led by Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin and the other by Selangor Bersatu chief Azmin Ali.
Top posts uncontested
Previously, Bersatu was reported to have suspended 10 divisions and postponed their respective meetings until further notice.
They are Kota Melaka, Hulu Langat, Jasin, Tapah, Teluk Intan, Machang, Bukit Mertajam, Bukit Bendera, Tanjong, and Cameron Highlands.

For the presidency, Muhyiddin Yassin was announced as continuing to lead the party, while the party’s secretary-general, Hamzah, was announced as the new deputy president to replace Faizal.
Bersatu’s deputy women’s chief, Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, was named the new head of the women’s wing after winning unopposed.
Also winning unchallenged was Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi for the position of Srikandi vice-chief.
Gombak Setia assemblyperson Muhammad Hilman Idham was announced as Bersatu Youth chief after defeating his challenger Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir.
Muhammad Faiz Rahmad won the youth wing’s deputy chief position, securing 1,790 votes to defeat Izhar Shah Arif Shah’s 1,287, and Ad Adib Shaharuddin’s 490 votes.
Muhamad Amerul Muhamad filled the youth wing’s permanent chairperson’s post, while Mohd Firdaus Mohd Zaini won the race to be his deputy.
However, the official results for all contested positions will only be announced once all divisional meetings across the country have concluded.
