Malbatt 850-12 crew in Lebanon feared injured by explosive fragments

Five peacekeepers and three Lebanese soldiers were injured on Thursday when a United Nations peacekeeping convoy, transporting newly arrived personnel, was struck by a drone while passing through the southern Lebanese city of Saida.

In a post on X, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) stated that the five peacekeepers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by the Lebanese Red Cross.

“They will proceed to their posts,” the statement said.

The Lebanese Army confirmed three of its soldiers stationed at a nearby checkpoint were also injured. Unifil reminded all parties of their duty to avoid actions that endanger peacekeepers or civilians, emphasising that differences should be resolved through negotiation, not violence.

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirmed that Malaysia’s Malbatt 850-12 team in Lebanon was struck by explosive fragments, with several personnel possibly injured.
