Still too early for Sabah PN to discuss state polls negotiations - chief

Sabah Perikatan Nasional has adopted a wait-and-see approach to negotiations for the 17th state election, which must be called next year.

Sabah PN chief Ronald Kiandee reportedly said it is still too early to discuss any cooperation, although the coalition is open to doing so if needed.

“Bersatu and PN are the only parties not in the (Sabah) state government or federal government.

“We stand on our own and we will remain that way until the election,” said Ronald as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.

He said while PN is prepared to field its candidates in the upcoming Sabah polls, the exact number of seats to be contested will only be decided closer to the election.

“At this time, we are not involved in seat negotiations in Sabah. For us, Bersatu will contest on a PN ticket,” said Ronald who defended his vice-president’s post in the recent Bersatu election.

Earlier this month, Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who is also Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairperson, said the coalition has a year to prepare for the state polls before the state legislative assembly is dissolved.

He also said that discussions among all GRS component parties and other political parties, especially Pakatan Harapan, are expected to occur this month.

Sabah BN chairperson Bung Moktar Radin previously said the coalition and Pakatan Harapan have discussed possible cooperation, including potential collaboration with GRS to face the polls.

On Oct 27, Zahid said BN never closed the door on cooperation or partnerships with coalitions in Sabah, and that it has also finalised their existing cooperation with Harapan.
