PN MP accuses Azalina of misleading Dewan on Pardons Board
PARLIAMENT | Opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) today brought Standing Order 36(12) against Azalina Othman Said for allegedly misleading the house.
Citing the Hansard for Nov 6, Takiyuddin said the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) misled the Dewan Rakyat in an interaction between the duo over the purported royal addendum ordering house arrest for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
PARLIAMENT | Opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) today brought Standing Order 36(12) against Azalina Othman Said for allegedly misleading the house.
Citing the Hansard for Nov 6, Takiyuddin (above) said the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) misled the Dewan Rakyat in an interaction between the duo over the purported royal addendum ordering house arrest for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
According to the Hansard, Azalina had said that as the law minister, she was not involved with the Pardons Board.
Takiyuddin also referred to a Federal Territories Pardons Board statement on Feb 2 signed by the board’s secretariat in the legal affairs department under the Prime Minister’s Department.
“That is the ministry of the law minister herself.
“So to me, the law minister has confused the house. She misled the house and that is a contempt, an insult to the house,” he said.
Clarification will suffice
However, Bersatu chief whip Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) clarified that the opposition does not wish to refer Azalina to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee.
Instead, he suggested that Azalina provide a clarification to the house, adding that it would make for a shorter process for speaker Johari Abdul.

This was accepted by Johari, who was visibly happy to be given a compromise.
He said he would look at the facts of the matter before coming to a decision.
“I will look at the facts and advise the ministers accordingly as to whether they (will) come here to clarify or whether they will write to me and I will read out what was meant,” he said.
Johari later remarked that the Dewan Rakyat felt more peaceful today.
