The video clip allegedly depicting a politician engaged in corrupt practices could have been generated using artificial intelligence, claimed Sabah state assemblyperson Yusof Yacob.
He said this in response to a Malaysiakini report yesterday, which featured an audio clip of a whistleblower speaking to a certain individual about an exchange of funds.
According to Sinar Harian, there were allegations that Yusof (above) was the politician speaking in the audio clip.
“Let them viral it, AI is becoming a problem these days. No need (to deny), let the MACC investigate if there is a case.
“The more we answer, the more things will come up. Nowadays, you can use AI on anything,” the Sindumin lawmaker told the Malay daily.
Yesterday, the whistleblower at the centre of an alleged corruption scandal provided Malaysiakini with a brief audio recording of a politician purportedly discussing the bribe he had received to support a project in his state.

This is the 17-second clip which MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki told Malaysiakini was played during a meeting between the whistleblower’s lawyer and the commission’s officers on Oct 30.
It is learnt that it is an alleged recording of a state assemblyperson’s discussion with a businessperson regarding the terms of returning the “RM500,000” he had received in exchange for supporting a project in the state.
Political enemies
Last night, the whistleblower filed a police report, claiming he had received a death threat.
According to the report sighted by Malaysiakini, he had received a WhatsApp call from an unidentified foreign number making the threat.
On that note, Yusof said he would give the MACC full cooperation on the matter if there is an investigation.
However, the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah leader did not rule out the possibility that the issue could have been blown up by his detractors nearing the state polls.
“This is normal… when we are strong and stable, our enemies will do all sorts of things.
“In politics, it’s not easy to identify your foes,” he added.
