PN MP asks if Dusuki 'rewarded' with AG's post for Zahid's DNAA
PARLIAMENT | Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah) today questioned if Dusuki Mokhtar’s appointment as the new attorney-general (AG) was his reward for his role in requesting that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi be freed of his corruption charges.
Mas Ermieyati was referring to the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to the deputy prime minister over 47 charges in his Yayasan Akalbudi case after the prosecution applied for it.
PARLIAMENT | Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah) today questioned if Dusuki Mokhtar’s appointment as the new attorney-general was his reward for his role in requesting that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi be freed of his corruption charges.
Mas Ermieyati was referring to the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to the deputy prime minister over 47 charges in his Yayasan Akalbudi case after the prosecution applied for it.
“The appointment of the AG became the talk outside as, before this, he was the Attorney-General’s Chambers appellate and trial division head, who was involved in the argument to release the Bagan Datuk MP (Zahid) with a DNAA.
“And is it because of his good work that he got to become the attorney-general?” she said in her debate on the Supply Bill 2025.
Yesterday, Bersih criticised Dusuki’s appointment, similarly pointing out his involvement in the DNAA granted to Zahid last year.
The day before, Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar announced that Dusuki would be replacing Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh as the new attorney-general.
Mas Ermieyati brought up Umno information chief Azalina Othman Said’s speech at a party event in 2022, in which the latter said then-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob must appoint one of “our people” to the attorney-general post.
“So, this is the result, it (the AG) is one of their people,” Mas Ermieyati said.
‘Hearsay’
After her debate, Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) stood to enforce Standing Order 36(6) against Mas Ermieyati for her speech.
The order states that no member of the Dewan Rakyat may impute improper motives to another member.
Shahar criticised her for relying on “hearsay”, saying that she should know better as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson.
He told her to rely on media outside of the house instead.
Deputy speaker Alice Lau advised Shahar to file the motion with the speaker’s office.
