M'sians may have to pay more for physical licence next year: Loke

PARLIAMENT | Next year, the Transport Ministry will announce a new initiative which may incur printing costs for those who wish to procure a physical licence.

However, its minister Anthony Loke did not elaborate on the printing fee that users will be charged.

“Early next year, we will announce a new initiative to any party or the public who wishes to print their licence physically - they may have to pay for the printing of a physical card,” he told the Dewan Rakyat this morning.

He touted his ministry’s digital shift, saying it was among the ministries most keen on national digitalisation measures.

The Transport Ministry’s MyJPJ smartphone app has been used for more than one million transactions involving the renewal of digital road tax and licences, he said.

“And from the perspective of MyJPJ’s collection (of earnings), as of Oct 31, it has recorded more than RM121 million.

“So the use (of MyJPJ) and its aid for the efficiency of the public and also the Road Transport Department (RTD), its effectiveness can really be seen and there is certainly savings from printing (costs),” he added.

In February last year, Loke announced that physical road tax stickers would no longer need to be displayed on privately owned vehicles, thanks to the ministry’s efforts to digitise the RTD’s services.

In January this year, he said MyJPJ app users can share their digital road tax with others using the new “Kongsi LKM” function.
