Sanusi: Kedah continues to allocate RM300k for Chinese, Tamil schools

The Kedah budget will continue allocating RM300,000 to Chinese and Tamil primary schools in the state, said Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

According to a report by Guang Ming Daily, Sanusi also said while the budget does not specifically list allocations for independent Chinese schools, they can still apply but are subject to the state government’s approval.

“The Kedah government will review and consider funding requests. If schools need financial assistance, we will provide it. Everyone will contribute a little - don’t worry!”

Sanusi made these remarks during a press conference after tabling the Kedah budget for next year at the state assembly today, adding the funding request would be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Additionally, he announced that the "Ethnic Relations Fund”, which is managed by the department handling Chinese affairs, will be increased from RM540,000 this year to RM600,000.

As for the budget, Sanusi said the total expenditure for next year is RM1.26 billion, with an estimated budget deficit of RM99.9 million or 12.65 percent.

This includes RM808.99 million for administrative expenses and RM209 million for development funds.

Sanusi added that the total revenue for 2025 is projected to be approximately RM790 million.

The largest portion of revenue will come from taxes at RM349.85 million, followed by non-tax revenue of RM250 million, and non-revenue receipts of RM174 million.
