Pro-Palestine group Gegar Amerika has condemned the Malaysian government for welcoming a US aircraft carrier’s visit to Port Klang.

It claimed it exposes the government’s hypocrisy in its supposed support for the Palestine cause.

“Why has the Malaysian government welcomed foreign forces involved in imperialist wars on our soil? Does our support for the people of Palestine mean nothing?

“The arrival of USS Abraham Lincoln to Port Klang exposes the hypocrisy of the neocolonial Malaysian state which wields pro-Palestinian rhetoric for political expediency while continuing to bolster US military forces involved in wars of aggression against the Global South,” it said in a statement today.

It noted that this was not the first time Malaysia cooperated with US military forces.

Earlier this year, Malaysia participated in war games hosted by the US in Hawaii.

This is despite Malaysia’s objections to Israeli attacks on Gaza and the US military backing for Israel. Israel also participated in the same war games.

Gegar Amerika’s statement came following USS Abraham Lincoln’s visit to Port Klang from Nov 23 to Nov 27, along with three escorting destroyers.

The aircraft carrier was transiting to the Indo-Pacific region following a three-month deployment in the Middle East, which included conducting airstrikes targeting Houthi forces in Yemen earlier this month.

The carrier’s arrival in Port Klang was welcomed by representatives from the Foreign Minister, Defence Ministry, and the Royal Malaysian Navy.

According to a Bernama report, Abraham Lincoln’s crew will be touring the local area and conducting community relations projects during their visit, including volunteering at local soup kitchens, senior citizens and children’s homes.

Gegar Amerika demanded that Malaysia stop all forms of military cooperation with the US, and stop participating in US-led war games.

It also urged Malaysia to “stand with anti-colonial forces in Palestine, Lebanon, and Yemen against the US imperialists and their neocolonial proxies”.
