PAS Youth has proposed that the party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan replace Hamzah Zainudin as the new Perikatan Nasional secretary-general.

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden suggested this in light of Hamzah being given a new mandate as Bersatu’s deputy president.

“This proposal aligns with the experience and seniority that Takiyuddin has within PN, especially since he previously served as the deputy secretary-general of PN,” he said.

Hamzah was recently elected as Bersatu deputy president unopposed, replacing Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is now a party vice-president.

The Bersatu deputy president, by current convention, should be one of PN’s deputy chairpersons alongside the presidents of PAS and Gerakan.

Bersatu has yet to appoint someone to replace Hamzah as party secretary-general, although there is speculation that Azmin Ali will be appointed to the post.

PAS Youth’s proposal for the party to get the PN secretary-general post comes a week after a squabble between PAS and other PN partners over who should be the coalition’s prime minister candidate.

Faizal had said that the candidate should be PN chief Muhyiddin Yassin, while PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin opined that it should be someone from the Islamist party.
