Cops rescue girl held hostage by other teens in Shah Alam apartment

Police rescued a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly held hostage by other teenagers in an apartment in Shah Alam last week.

The girl’s father lodged a police report at 10.28pm on Nov 16 when she did not return home in Taman Kem, Port Klang, after leaving at about 6.30pm the same day.

Her father said he received a voice message from his daughter asking him to pick her up at a location in Subang.

In the voice message, it sounded like she was in an argument with a man.

But when her father turned up at the location, she was not there, Klang Selatan district police chief Cha Hoong Fong said in a statement yesterday.

After that, the father received another message saying that the suspect was going to “release the victim in Kuala Lumpur”.

The father then told the suspect he was lodging a police report, after which the suspect threatened to sell his daughter unless he paid a ransom.

Two days later, at about 11pm, police raided an apartment in i-City, Shah Alam and rescued the victim who was discovered unharmed.

Suspects under remand

Police arrested five teenagers - three males and two females - aged 15 to 19.

Two other youths aged 16 and 18 were detained about two hours later near Midvalley Megamall, Cha said.

The suspects under 18 were remanded for a day, while the rest were remanded until Nov 22.

Police were investigating the case under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping a girl under 16 from her legal guardian.

The offence carries a jail term of seven years and a fine.
