15-year-old who went missing in Singapore rescued in Kuantan

A 15-year-old girl, who did not turn up to school in Singapore on Monday (Nov 25), has been rescued in Kuantan, Pahang, police said.

She was rescued in a raid the next day and a 22-year-old man, who is a China citizen, was arrested, Johor police chief M Kumar said in a statement.

Police also seized a mobile phone, clothes and other unspecified equipment, while the girl was sent to the hospital for a medical examination.

The raid happened the same day her father, also a China citizen, lodged a police report suspecting that his daughter had been kidnapped.

Kumar (above) did not specify the girl’s nationality.

He said the girl crossed over from Singapore to Malaysia via the Woodlands immigration checkpoint on Sunday (Nov 24), two days before her father reported her disappearance.

“The motive of the crime is still under investigation. The operation was successful due to information from police intelligence and public tip-off.

“Members of the public are advised not to make any speculations or comments which could jeopardise the investigation,” he said.

The suspect is under remand until Dec 2, he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act for sexual harassment, Section 48(2) of the Child Act for harbouring a child without lawful authority and Section 361 of the Penal Code for kidnapping a girl below the age of 16.
