Ex-Umno leader Tun Faisal named Bersatu’s info chief

Former Umno leader and Special Affairs Department (Jasa) director Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has been appointed as the new Bersatu information chief.

Former minister Rina Harun has been named as the party’s treasurer-general.

The decision was made during a special meeting of the Bersatu supreme leadership council this evening, chaired by its president, Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin announced the list of appointments in a Facebook post.

Previously, Rina chose not to defend her position as the head of Bersatu’s women’s wing, allowing Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin to win uncontested.

Malaysiakini understands that Tun Faisal, a former Umno member who was expelled after criticising party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is reportedly ineligible to contest in Bersatu’s elections as he has not met the minimum two-year membership requirement.

The appointments were made ahead of Bersatu’s annual general assembly, which will be held this Saturday and Sunday in Shah Alam, completing the leadership lineup for the 2025-2027 term.

The majority of the party’s leadership positions were decided through elections held earlier this month.

A few days ago, Muhyiddin informed Malaysiakini that another leader, Azmin Ali, had accepted an offer to be appointed as the party’s secretary-general.
