Overnight downpour causes floods in Klang, 117 evacuated

Incessant rain overnight has caused massive floods around Klang, with 117 people being sheltered at two temporary evacuation centres as of 8am today.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Dashboard, the two evacuation centres opened are the SK Sungai Binjai and Bukit Kapar Community Centre, housing a total of 29 families.

SK Sungai Binjai is housing the most evacuees – around 96 people from 24 families.

Bukit Kapar Community Hall is sheltering 21 evacuees from five families.

The department said four of its stations have been mobilised in the evacuation process, involving 36 officers.

The stations involved are from Kapar, Bukit Jelutong, Dengkil and Subang Jaya.

Malay daily Kosmo reported the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department saying that the water levels at the Pekan Meru station had breached danger levels, at 4.74m, which is above the 2.8m recorded at 9.30am today.

The water levels at the Taman Desa Kemuning had reached the danger level, at 2.8m.
