BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded coalition members to emulate their allies in Pakatan Harapan by not using money as an excuse for carrying out party work.

The Umno president pointed out that BN was “very wealthy” during the last general election (GE) campaign but still failed to form a government.

“If the components have no money, the party has no money. Just do the work as if there’s no money.

“During GE14, we were very wealthy, but did we manage to form a government? Money isn’t everything, even though everything requires money.

“Don’t use money as an excuse for not working.

“Ask PKR, ask Amanah - they are even poorer (compared to BN) to this day. Money is not the priority,” he said in his speech at the opening of the Selangor BN Convention in Shah Alam today.

Meanwhile, the deputy prime minister said the federal government led by Harapan and BN has to accept the new political reality, where no party is dominant and can form a government on its own.

“This is the new reality that we have to face. How much hate DAP used to have for Umno, the same hate Umno had for DAP once upon a time.

“PKR and Umno also hated each other previously. We fought with Amanah. But now, we are friends, and we know that Umno and other BN component parties are membership-based parties.

“But we cannot depend on our own party members to support and vote for our election candidates,” he said.
