Cops, MCMC step up efforts against child sexual abuse materials offenders

Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are intensifying efforts to track individuals who possess, store and distribute pornographic and child sexual abuse materials.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said operations under “Op Pedo” will continue to be conducted periodically to curb such activities.

“We are collaborating with MCMC to identify and gather related information. The police are also investigating whether these activities involve syndicates or are carried out individually.

“Other individuals involved in these activities are also being tracked. Members of the public with information on such activities are encouraged to report to the police to assist investigations,” he told Bernama.

Yesterday, Razarudin, in a statement, revealed that a senior citizen was among 13 men arrested on suspicion of committing online sexual offences involving child sexual abuse materials during “Op Pedo” on Monday.

He said the 74-year-old suspect and 12 others were detained in a joint operation with MCMC across six states: Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Johor and Terengganu.

Items seized during the operation included 40,000 child sexual abuse materials and adult pornographic materials, as well as seven computers, 11 mobile phones, nine routers, seven modems, a laptop, a digital video disc and a hard drive.
