MCA sacks leader for joining Bersatu, wants councillor post revoked

Following the defection of its Sembrong youth chief Eugene Lim Yew Chin to Bersatu, MCA today swiftly expelled him from the party and called on the Johor government to remove him from his state councillor position.

According to a Facebook post by MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon, Lim’s move to join Bersatu was made without prior warning.

Sin Woon shared a photo (above) of Lim wearing a Bersatu T-shirt, standing alongside Bersatu’s non-Malay affairs wing chief, Chong Fatt Full.

He said in the post that MCA’s central committee has a clear policy - any member who joins another political party or publicly declares their resignation will be immediately expelled from the party.

“The Johor MCA Liaison Committee will also notify the local council to terminate his councillor position without delay,” he added.

Lim is a councillor for the Kampung Gajah zone of the Kluang Municipal Council.

Separately, MCA organising secretary-general Leaw Kok Chan issued a press release confirming Lim’s expulsion.

He said the party had obtained information including photos, showing Lim wearing clothing bearing Bersatu’s logo and confirming his membership in the party.

“In light of this, MCA headquarters has officially expelled (Lim) from the party, effective immediately. The party has also requested the Johor government to revoke Lim’s councillor position, which was appointed under the MCA banner.”
