Fahmi: No cover-up in probe on minister's son

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said there were no efforts to cover up a minister’s son's case involving the alleged abuse of a woman.

When asked how he would address fears of suppression over the matter, he said there was no such thing.

"None," he simply said during a press conference at his ministry today.

Previously, a purported report was widely shared on social media, in which a minister’s son allegedly threatened a woman he impregnated to get an abortion.

He also allegedly tried to kick her in the stomach.

The report claimed that the man refused to “take responsibility” for the pregnancy.

In response, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail indicated that the man being investigated was his son and that there would be no preferential treatment.

‘Annuar can dream on’

Separately, Fahmi dismissed PAS leader Annuar Musa’s comments on the qualities the next prime minister should possess.

"It's not the election yet. He can live with his dreams," Fahmi said at the press conference.

On Jan 11, Annuar, who is a PAS central committee member, posted on Facebook that the 11th prime minister must be someone who unites the Malays, bumiputera and Muslims while harnessing knowledge from six of his predecessors who are still living.
