Cops rescue 8 Bangadeshi workers from forced labour conditions

The police successfully rescued eight Bangladeshi men, who had been deceived and subjected to forced labour, during a raid on a vegetable farm in Tanah Tinggi Lojing, Gua Musang, Kelantan, on Tuesday (Jan 21).

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Division (D3) principal assistant director Soffian Santong disclosed that the men, aged between 27 and 47, had been working as farm labourers without receiving their wages, despite some having worked for up to seven months.

The raid at 12.30pm was carried out by a dedicated team of officers and personnel from Bukit Aman CID D3.

“The operation also led to the arrest of three local men, aged between 32 and 35, who are the farm’s owners, along with their assistants, under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement, today.

Additionally, 21 foreign nationals, including individuals from Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia, were detained.

“All of the foreign farm workers are currently under investigation under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1959/63,” he added.
