Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has expressed high hopes that his party can win big in the PAS stronghold of Kelantan in the next general election.
He is confident that the target can be achieved if members of the coalition government remain united and the distribution of seats to contest is done correctly.
“Look at the states we have been tasked with (winning) such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah dan Perlis.
“No doubt it will be hard to go against the ruling party (PAS).
“However, I am confident that in the next general election, if our unity is good, seat allocation is right, we will win dozens of seats in Kelantan,” Mohamad said in his winding-up speech at the Amanah Convention in Klang today.
Since its establishment in 2015, Amanah gained its first win in Kelantan with the Kota Lama state seat through Dr Hafidzah Mustakim in the last state polls in 2023.

‘Party turmoil sign of progression’
Mohamed, who is popularly known as Mat Sabu, admitted that there has been internal fighting within the Kelantan Amanah leadership.
However, the party chief views it as a positive development for the party.
“There has indeed been party turmoil in Kelantan. Why is there turmoil? It’s because they (members) want to show that they are the best, and that’s why such issues arise.
"Sometimes, conflicts happen because some claim they are deserving of leadership, while Amanah Women says it’s their turn.
"So they compete, and during the annual general meeting, each side brings a large number of members – hundreds show up.
"That’s why when I hear that Amanah is in turmoil, I stay calm. I say it’s a sign that this area is progressing," he said.
