Razman files police report over fake news on 'defending YTL's daughter claim'

Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria, who is on the brink of facing legal action for making a false claim about a DAP leader, has become a victim of fake news himself.

The Gunung Semanggol assemblyperson said he has filed a police report because he “does not want the culture of deceiving and lying to the people to become a trend in Malaysian society”.

Razman was referring to a Facebook account called “Harakat Daily HD” which claimed that he defended his accusation against Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

The post read: “Razman defends the accusation that Hannah Yeoh is the daughter of a Chinese tycoon from YTL” and “I have checked the PAS donation account, there is still a lot of allocation to pay for the lawsuit, he said happily.”

Razman, who has since apologised to Yeoh for claiming she is the daughter of YTL Corporation Berhad’s founder Yeoh Tiong Lay, has denied making the aforementioned statements.

“I urge the police to investigate the owner of the Facebook account and to take appropriate action.

“I have also reported the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” he added in a statement.

‘Authorities can’t be selective’

Razman said he also lodged the report to prevent irresponsible social media accounts from spreading false claims.

“(I want) MCMC and the Communications Ministry to be more effective in curbing fake news and not to take selective action,” he added.

Yesterday, Yeoh told Razman to “wait for the letter from her lawyer” after the PAS leader conceded making an erroneous statement about her.

“Slander cannot be permitted and normalised, particularly by a man of religion,” said the Segambut MP.

Last December, Razman was forced to apologise to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming after falsely linking the latter to a procession in Teluk Intan where delegates from China waved the Chinese national flag.
