The lawyer of former Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) CEO Jontih Enggihon has apologised to a woman whose image was used in a smear campaign against him.

Chin Tek Ming told Malaysiakini that his image was superimposed beside an unidentified woman and is now circulating on social media.

“I sincerely apologise to the woman for being dragged into this. This is a despicable and desperate act of character assassination, and unfortunately, she has become collateral damage.

"I will file a police report on this matter tomorrow," said the Kota Kinabalu-based lawyer.

On Saturday, Chin, who is also Warisan’s legal adviser, had announced plans to subpoena Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and the assemblypersons implicated in an alleged corruption scandal.

Speaking at Warisan’s Chinese New Year open house in Kota Kinabalu, he hinted at dramatic courtroom proceedings, urging the audience to prepare for the spectacle.

“I am representing Jontih. When the case is heard, we will subpoena Hajiji, the assemblypersons, and others linked to the matter - more than 20 people in total.

“We will compel them to testify. So, stock up on peanuts and get ready to watch the show,” he said.

SMM filed a lawsuit against Jontih and an external third party Tei Jiann Chieng after the former CEO accused his successor Natasha Sim and Hajiji of misconduct and abuse of power.

Hajiji serves as the chairperson of the state-owned entity.

According to reports, SMM's lawsuit seeks redress for “fraud, breach of fiduciary duties and confidentiality, tampering with official documents, conspiracy to injure by unlawful means, and potential collusion with third parties”.
