Fahmi not contesting youth chief post in upcoming PKR polls

Penang exco Fahmi Zainol has confirmed that he will not be making another go for the PKR Youth chief position in the upcoming party polls in May.

The Pantai Jerejak assemblyperson is set on defending his spot in the party’s central leadership council instead.

“I will not be contesting to become the PKR Youth chief. I choose to keep my post in the central leadership council,” he told Malaysiakini today.

Fahmi (above) was responding to speculation that he would try his luck again for the top spot in the party’s youth wing, which he lost when he went up against Adam Adli Abdul Halim in the previous internal polls.

Fahmi lost to Adam with 9,850 votes compared to his opponent’s 12,301 votes.

Adam will also be vying for a spot in the central leadership council this year.

Likely no challengers for Kamil

It was reported yesterday that prime minister’s aide Kamil Abdul Munim had received the backing of nine PKR Youth state chapters to become the next youth chief.

A party leadership source indicated that there may not be a contest for the position.

"Although it is still early, I don’t see any clear challengers at the moment, so there might not be a contest," the source said.
