'Peluncuran, not pelancuran': Mas Ermieyati corrects Tiong

PARLIAMENT | Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing’s winding-up speech sparked laughter in the House due to his mispronunciation of the word peluncuran (launching).

While reading his speech, Tiong mistakenly pronounced it as “pelancuran” before being corrected by Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah).

“Peluncuran, YB, not pelancuran,” Mas Ermieyati interjected.

Tiong responded, “Pelancuran, mah.”

“Peluncuran. Pelacuran (prostitution) is a different word,” Mas Ermieyati clarified.

Tiong then conceded with a lighthearted, “Okay, ikut kamu (Okay, I’ll follow you),” prompting laughter to ripple through the chamber for several minutes.

He then continued his speech on the launch of the Visit Malaysia 2026 promotional video, urging the House not to politicise it.

“I would like to clarify once again—the video is only 30 seconds long and focuses solely on launching the logo, song, and mascot for the visit… campaign.

“The full VM2026 promotional video will be longer and more detailed, featuring five zones covering every state. This promotional video is set to be launched on Feb 26, 2025,” he explained.

On Jan 8, Tiong and his ministry came under fire after PN leaders criticised the promotional video for not featuring any mosques. Bersatu Youth called it a failure to highlight Islamic elements and the country’s rich mosque heritage.

The following day, Tiong responded by stating that the promotional video would be expanded with more detailed content to better showcase each state, including cultural elements such as silat and the Ngajat and Sumazau dances.
