Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman has hit back at Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi, who accused him of lacking confidence in PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to become a future premier.

The PAS lawmaker retorted that Hadi does not lust for power, unlike Najwan’s boss - PKR president and prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

"For the record, during the polemics over the deputy prime minister post in 2020, Hadi told reporters that he would be content to just 'balik kampung' (return to his village) and work as a fisherfolk.

"Our party president is that kind of person. (Unlike) the president of your party, who is the opposite.

"It is not the prime ministership that our president is after," Syahir (above) said in a statement today.

‘Do your homework’

Yesterday, Najwan mocked Syahir for not naming the Marang MP as a potential prime ministerial candidate.

This came after Syahir, who is Hadi’s political secretary, issued a statement saying he wanted to see a technocrat replace Anwar as the prime minister.

In his retort, Syahir also told Najwan to do his homework before making such accusations.

He said Hadi had suggested the idea of a technocrat-led government since 2018 and he was merely echoing the PAS president’s views.
