Flexible hours for Selangor, Perlis civil servants in Ramadan

In view of the coming Ramadan month, the Selangor and Perlis governments have announced flexible working hours for their civil servants.

Selangor civil servants will be permitted to leave work 30 minutes earlier throughout the fasting month, but their lunch break will also be reduced during this period.

Below is the Flexible Working Hours schedule for Ramadan in Selangor:

• Clock-in: 7.30am - 9am

• Break:

Monday-Thursday: 1pm - 1.30pm

Friday: 12.30pm - 2.30pm

• Clock-out: 4pm-5.30pm

(Must complete nine working hours per day)

Counter services will remain unchanged to ensure smooth public service operations.

“The operating hours for counters will remain as usual to avoid any disruption to public services,” said Selangor state secretary Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

He explained that the decision aligns with the Public Service Department’s (JPA) directive, as outlined in Circular SR.4.1.1 on the Implementation of Flexible Working Hours in Federal Government Agencies.

“This implementation not only aims to provide flexibility for civil servants during Ramadan but also ensures their well-being so they can perform their duties comfortably and maintain a balanced work life throughout the fasting month,” Fadzli (above) said.

In Perlis, the state government has announced flexible working hours for state civil servants during Ramadan, allowing them to leave work early on Fridays.

According to Bernama, Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said the decision was made during a state executive council meeting on Feb 26.

“Throughout this year’s Ramadan, working hours for state civil servants on Fridays are set from 8am to 12.30pm.

“All heads of department are responsible for ensuring that services, including counter operations, run smoothly without disruption,” he said in a statement today.

He added that flexible working hours for federal department staff in Perlis would depend on their respective department heads.

Shukri expressed hope that the flexible working arrangement would allow civil servants to dedicate more time to worship and strengthen their faith during Ramadan.
