'27 immigration officers caught in nightclub last year given counselling'

Immigration officers caught in a police raid at a nightclub in April last year have been sent for counselling, according to Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

In his written parliamentary reply yesterday, Saifuddin (above) said the Immigration Department had initially issued a show cause letter to the 27 officers involved.

"Referring to the case of the 27 immigration officers caught in the raid, show cause letters were issued to seek their explanation over their presence at the premises.

"They were also asked to respond to allegations of drug abuse.

"The officers were then given a warning by the state immigration director and counselling, besides having to sign an undertaking on May 3, 2024," he added.

The minister was replying to a question from Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who wanted to know what actions were taken against the officers.

No drug abuse

Saifuddin added the officers were also found negative for drug abuse during a series of urine tests carried out by the National Anti-Drugs Agency between June 4 and 14 last year.

The media had reported that 27 immigration officers were among 161 individuals that the police arrested during the operation on a nightclub in Jalan Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, on April 26, 2024.

Police, however, released the officers after their drug tests returned negative.
