Non-Muslim man slapped: Johor cops to submit probe papers soon

Police will submit the investigation papers on a senior citizen accused of slapping a non-Muslim man who was eating at a convenience store during the day in Ramadan to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) before this Friday.

Johor police chief M Kumar said the 65-year-old suspect was summoned yesterday to have his statement recorded.

“Police have also recorded the victim’s statement yesterday and he was sent to the hospital for a medical evaluation. 

“The doctor’s statement will be recorded before investigation papers are referred to the AGC,” Kumar was quoted as saying by Berita Harian during a press conference at Iskandar Puteri district station.

The police also recorded witness statements from the senior citizen’s son and several others. 

Kumar urged the public to end speculations on the issue, which he described as an isolated incident.

Yesterday, a non-Muslim man who identified himself on X as Elijah lodged a police report over the incident after an elderly man confronted and attacked him. He said the man had also demanded to see his MyKad.

The incident drew the ire of National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang, who condemned any use of violence, acts of discrimination, and prejudice that could harm inter-ethnic harmony.

Similarly, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Na’im Mokhtar said the attack was against Islamic teachings, as the religion beseeches its worshippers to respect others, especially as part of a multiracial society.
