Condemn others who insult Islam too, PAS tells PM

PAS has demanded Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to condemn other incidents where Islam is insulted.

This came after the premier sent a message through his press aide yesterday condemning a recent incident in Johor Bahru, where a non-Muslim was slapped for eating in public in the daytime during Ramadan.

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said while the slapping incident was "totally unacceptable", he believed it was an isolated incident.

"But one thing I want to suggest here so that it can get the attention of the prime minister is about insults on Islam.

"Such incidents have been rampant of late, either committed by non-Muslims or even Muslims," Fadhli (above) said in a statement on Facebook.

Fadhli pointed to several incidents, including a viral video where a Malaysian living overseas uttered remarks that insulted Islam.

He said there was also a more recent incident where a Facebook user posted a comment that appeared to insult Prophet Muhammad.

"These are a series of insults which seemed to have been done systematically. It is more serious than the action of a senior citizen who lost his temper like in Johor.

"Incidents where Islam is insulted also need the attention of the prime minister and his condemnation. Thus, I would like to suggest this matter to the attention of the Prime Minister's Office (which has been doing press conferences daily)," Fadhli said.

Yesterday, Anwar's senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah told a daily press briefing that the prime minister has condemned the slapping incident in Johor Bahru and that such aggressions must be stopped immediately.
