Sabah corruption: Another round of MACC questioning for reps

MACC will summon Sabah leaders implicated in alleged bribery involving state mineral exploration licences for another round of questioning.

This came after a whistleblower identified as "Albert", who revealed the damning videos and WhatsApp messages of the assemblypersons, met MACC and provided investigators with the purported evidence and his statement.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has instructed the agency's investigators to call up "everyone involved".

"I don't have all the details now, but I have given an instruction (to MACC officers) to summon everyone involved and record their statements.

"We will call everyone, including the whistleblower, for further investigation," he told Malaysiakini when asked for updates on several high-profile cases MACC is investigating.

On whether the agency will make arrests over the case soon, he said there is no such plan yet.

"For now please let us conduct the investigation first.

"We will see later after the probe is done, we will submit our findings to the deputy public prosecutor for decision," Azam added.

The 36-year-old whistleblower, who is a businessperson, has alleged that he had bribed several Sabah assemblypersons in exchange for mineral exploration licences.

Since last November, he has revealed nine videos and a trove of WhatsApp messages, which he claims are evidence of him doing so.
