PM nixes S'gor-level Raya do, wants food prepared disbursed to the needy
The prime minister has cancelled the Selangor-level Aidilfitri celebration scheduled on April 6 as a sign of respect for those affected by the gas pipeline inferno in Putra Heights recently, said the Prime Minister’s Office in a statement today.

“The prime minister had also instructed that the food prepared for the celebration be dished out to the related relief centres, as well as schools, boarding schools, and homes sheltering senior citizens and orphans.
“We thank all quarters for the cooperation given,” the PMO added.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari confirmed the matter, saying the decision was consented to by the state ruler in addition to getting the premier’s nod.
He added that some of the food items prepared would also be distributed to security services.
“On behalf of the Selangor government, I apologise for all inconveniences that may have come due to the cancellation to respect those affected by the fire incident.
“I would also like to extend my appreciation to those who worked hard to make all the preparations for the event but we have to focus on the bigger picture.
“May Allah bless our solidarity with all those affected (in the fire incident),” Amirudin added.

Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, meanwhile, expressed deep concern and sympathy for the victims affected by the incident and backed the decision to cancel the Hari Raya celebration.
“His Royal Highness’ decision has been conveyed to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who has expressed his full support for the cancellation,” the Selangor Royal Office said on Facebook.
Over 300 affected, properties gutted
Two days ago, Amirudin said that a total of 87 houses and premises involved in the April 1 gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, have been declared a “total loss”.
He added that 148 other homes suffered damage as well, but can be inhabited after undergoing repairs.

As of now, 20 agencies are investigating the incident, which affected over 300 people.
