Stop with cheap shots during disaster, Umno leaders tell Fadhli

An Umno leader has called on PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari to "read the room" and stop taking cheap shots in the wake of the Putra Heights pipeline disaster.

This was over Fadhli's sarcastic swipes against Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, calling for the latter to go on leave.

"Fadhli never fails to criticise no matter the circumstance. In every crisis, he shows up not to help but to make unfounded criticisms," said Seputeh Umno division chief Razlan Rafii in a statement today.

"His actions are not just irresponsible, but add to the pain of the people who are suffering. Where is the spirit of protecting the nation? Where is the respect for victims?

"If there is a major disaster in this country, I pray that there will be no politicians like this who only know to find fault and seek popularity through the people's suffering," he added.

Consuming fire

A major fire involving a Petronas gas line at 8.10am on Tuesday saw the flames rise to a height of more than 30m with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius, transforming the landscape of the area into a large crater.

The incident also destroyed rows of homes and property within a 500m radius.

Yesterday Fadhli sarcastically urged Amirudin to take a break after the latter accused the party of defamation and manipulation of facts.

"Take time to calm down, make a TikTok video. Leave it to the police and other related departments to make the next statement," he said.

This was in response to Amirudin's initial remarks on April 1 that no excavator was seen at the site of the disaster.

Police later confirmed that an excavator was later found sunk in the ground.

Amirudin has denied any contradiction, stressing that his remarks were based only on initial visual observations and that he had called on the public to wait for the authorities to report further.
