Prasarana removes 'insensitive' train ad following feedback from commuters

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has removed an advertisement displayed on one of its train lines following public accusations that it was insensitive towards certain groups.

This came after netizens urged the main operator of rail and bus services in the Klang Valley to explain its decision to display an advertisement that was criticised for being insensitive to racial and religious sentiments, particularly due to the inclusion of religious symbols.

Prasarana said the advertisement promoting a personal care product received mixed reactions from the public despite its original intent to reflect everyday situations involving Malaysians from diverse backgrounds using public transport.

It clarified that the ad aimed to highlight the importance of personal hygiene and was not intended to target any specific community.

“It had undergone the appropriate review processes, including internal and external assessments covering racial, religious and social sensitivities.

“However, the advertisement has since been removed from the Ampang/Sri Petaling line following feedback from passengers,” it said in a statement.

As a responsible public transport operator, Prasarana said it takes the incident as a lesson and will tighten its review processes to ensure that future advertisements do not raise sensitivity issues.

“We value public feedback, especially when content can be misinterpreted as targeting specific individuals or communities.

“We appreciate the continued support and concern shown by the public towards our public transport services,” the statement added.
