PKR committees to probe Batu PKR Youth chief hopeful over bribe claim

PKR Young Women has revealed that the party’s election and disciplinary board committees will be investigating a bribery claim against one of its members.

This came after a video emerged showing Batu PKR Youth chief candidate Fatin Izzaty Muhammad allegedly offering money in exchange for votes in the upcoming party polls.

According to the wing's secretary, Hanani Dhamirah, its supreme committee also urged PKR Women to examine the case and determine any disciplinary action if corruption is found.

This is because the women's wing has the power to appoint or dismiss committee members of the young women's wing, Hanani explained.

"PKR Young Women would like to emphasise that it strongly rejects corruption and money politics in any form and situation because such practices do not reflect the party's principles and are contrary to the main values of the struggle of PKR, which hates corruption and abuse of power among leaders," she said in a statement today.

She added that the values of party president Anwar Ibrahim in his fight against corruption should be instilled in and applied by all members.

‘I was set up’

Yesterday, Fatin claimed that she was a victim of a smear campaign after the video surfaced.

In the video - which has been edited in parts - Fatin is heard saying that incumbent Batu PKR chief P Prabakaran - whose team she is on - will be giving supporters money.

"YB (Prabakaran) will give RM100 duit raya in the final week before... voting, he will gather all of us to break fast with him the week before Raya, then when it's time to vote, YB will give RM100.

"If we win, there will be a jackpot, don't worry," she allegedly said.

The video also has her giving out some money to someone off-camera.

When contacted, Fatin denied the claims, saying she was set up.

Prabakaran - who is looking to defend his post as Batu PKR chief - has also denied giving out money for votes.

The Batu division is part of the Federal Territories, which will head to the polls on April 20.
