Another S'wak cat-tastrophe: Pets burned alive

The Borneo Post reported that a cat owner in Miri has filed a police report, claiming her beloved pets were intentionally set ablaze in an unthinkable act of cruelty.

The Borneo Post reported that a cat owner in Miri has filed a police report, claiming her beloved pets were intentionally set ablaze in an unthinkable act of cruelty.
Three cats perished in the flames. A fourth succumbed to smoke inhalation.
“What I want now is justice for my cats that were deliberately set on fire. They were part of my family.
“I don’t understand how anyone could commit such a cruel and inhumane act against animals,” said Michelle Nelly Simon, 26.
Recounting the incident, Michelle said she and her family were at home at the time, having just finished a potluck dinner that ended around 11pm.
“At about 1.20am, I smelled smoke and initially thought our neighbours might still be barbecuing. But when I stepped out of my room, I was shocked to see the kitchen filled with smoke,” she added.
“I have 13 cats in total - some were given to me, and others were strays I took in,” she explained.
According to Michelle, five of the cats were kept in front of the house, while the remaining eight were housed in four separate cages at the back.
Miri deputy police chief Nurasyikin Abdullah said that a CID team had visited the scene.
Kitten mutilated
In the Unimas case, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii yesterday expressed doubts about the university dismissing human involvement.
The DAP lawmaker urged Unimas to allow external veterinary experts and relevant authorities to conduct a post-mortem on the animal, which has been buried.
