Sabah graft videos analysis expected to be completed next week: Azam

MACC expects the forensic analysis of 10 video clips implicating Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and several assemblypersons in a mineral licensing scandal to be completed next week.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said a thorough examination of the videos, submitted to the commission on March 11, is underway, and denied there had been delays.

“I expect (the results of the analysis) to be out within a week. Everyone is asking why it is taking so long and so on - I myself do not want any delays,” Azam was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

“It requires a bit of time because there is not just one, but 10 videos,” he said when met after launching the Southeast Asia Anti-Corruption Conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre earlier today.

On March 10, Azam’s predecessor, Latheefa Koya, had described the videos as “clear evidence” of corruption.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the whistleblower behind the Sabah scandal is preparing to submit more evidence to the graftbusters.

According to a press invitation issued by his lawyer, Mahajoth Singh, the 36-year-old businessperson is scheduled to hand over the new evidence at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 3.30pm today.

Previously, Malaysiakini reported that the whistleblower, who is also under investigation for allegedly being part of a cartel attempting to monopolise mining activities in Sabah, possessed additional videos, although it remained unclear whether these will be made public.

Hajiji has denied the allegations against him, accusing the businessperson of colluding with those with vested interests to destabilise his administration.
