Govt to announce comprehensive recovery plan for pipeline fire victims

The government is set to announce a comprehensive recovery plan this week for victims of the devastating gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Selangor.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed that the plan will provide support to those affected, saying that the announcement will bring “good news” to the victims.

“A thorough recovery plan has been finalised to help the fire victims, thanks to the Madani government’s hard work,” he said in social media post.

The announcement will be made jointly with Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

According to a media invitation from the Selangor government, Amirudin and Nga will present rental assistance and announce the reconstruction and repair efforts for homes affected by the fire tomorrow.

The fire, which broke out on April 1, sent flames soaring over 30m high, with temperatures reaching up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. It took nearly eight hours to completely extinguish the blaze.

A total of 81 houses were totally destroyed with structural damage exceeding 40 percent, while another 81 were partially damaged. Fifty-seven houses were affected but not burned, and 218 homes remained unaffected.
