No possibility of MCA joining DAP - Loke

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has clarified that there is no circumstance in which MCA will become part of his party.

This came in response to a DAP lawmaker suggesting that the BN component party disband and be absorbed into DAP.

Loke said Kampar MP Chong Zhemin’s comments were his personal views and did not reflect DAP’s stance.

“The matter (MCA joining DAP) was never discussed. So, I don't think there is a possibility of that happening.

"He can give his opinion, but for me, firstly, this is not the party's stance and secondly, I don't see any possibility of that," the transport minister was quoted as saying by Harian Metro at a ministry event in Seremban.

Umno-Bersatu spat spilling over

Chong had made his suggestion earlier as a response to an ongoing argument between Umno and Bersatu.

He said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s recent proposal for Umno to dissolve and join Bersatu was “more appropriate” to be directed to MCA.

The DAP MP pointed out that MCA had only won its two parliamentary seats due to Umno's support, therefore, MCA no longer represented the Chinese community.

He urged MCA to return the two seats to Umno and instead join DAP.

Muhyiddin's statement was made in response to the Umno Veterans’ Club’s initial call for Bersatu leaders to disband the party and enter Umno.

This came after Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin expressed the party’s readiness to cooperate with Umno as both parties share a similar ideology.
