PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh confirmed that the party leadership decided to ratify the disputed division election results in a meeting last night.

However, in her statement today, she did not explain how the central leadership committee arrived at the decision.

A party source told Malaysiakini last night that during the one-hour meeting, the international auditor appointed to review the election results gave the leadership committee a briefing via teleconferencing.

The source claimed there were no objections to the decision to move past the division polls.

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli - whose camp was disgruntled by the division polls - was at the meeting.

Previously, rumours had been circulating that discontent over the election results, which were perceived to have irregular outcomes, led Rafizi to mull resigning as economy minister.

While Rafizi himself won as Pandan division chief, others who were defeated in upsets included PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Youth chief Adam Adli Abd Halim, as well as central leadership committee members Akmal Nasrullah Nasir, Fahmi Zainol, Lee Chean Chung, and Rodziah Ismail.

Yesterday’s decision paves the way for PKR to proceed to the party’s national election, in which Anwar Ibrahim has already retained his party president position uncontested for his final term.

Speculation is abound that Rafizi will face a challenge for the deputy presidency.

Nominations will be opened on May 8 and 9, with voting on the 23rd.

PKR is reverting to a delegate system for the national election, after experimenting with allowing every party member a vote for 15 years.

This may impact how Rafizi’s camp performs at the party elections, as delegates are decided at the division level.
