Ling's abduction: Cops probing if husband involved - IGP

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said his team is investigating the possibility of Pamela Ling’s husband being involved in her abduction.

He said this when asked by the media whether Ling’s husband was considered a suspect.

"The investigation has not been completed yet, and we believe that several other individuals are also considered suspects in the case.

"Following the victim's disappearance, I ordered the formation of a special task force involving elements from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and the Kuala Lumpur police," the New Straits Times reported Razarudin (above) as saying today.

It was reported on May 5 that Ling was on her way to meet MACC investigators on April 9 to facilitate a money laundering investigation, but was abducted before she could reach her destination.

Police have since confirmed they are investigating the incident under Section 365 of the Penal Code, which criminalises kidnapping or abduction. It carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

Ling’s lawyer N Sivananthan said based on a police report lodged by the Grab driver ferrying Ling, the kidnappers were alleged to have been wearing police outfits.

No compromise on errant personnel

On that note, Razarudin said his team is determining whether the suspects are actual officers or impostors.

"If any of those involved are found to be errant personnel, we will not tolerate it.

"We have taken action on personnel, including charging those involved in robberies and abductions.

"The probe is looking into the CCTV footage acquired and witness statements recorded," he said, adding that the police have recorded statements from at least 16 individuals as of now.

Razarudin added that this includes a statement that was initially recorded from the victim's husband.

"Our investigators will also record statements from the victim's children," he said, stating that the motive behind the kidnapping has yet to be established.

Asked about the CCTV footage, Razarudin said he would be chairing a meeting with the special task force later tonight to receive the latest updates on the case.

In a Sin Chew Daily report today, Ling’s father said his daughter and her husband, Sarawakian businessperson Thomas Hah, have been in the midst of a divorce since 2023.

While unsure about the cause of divorce, he said Hah has been trying to locate Ling since her disappearance.
