A woman who died after jumping out of a moving van at Kesas Highway on Tuesday was quarrelling with her husband about her driving, said police.

According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa, the couple was arguing about a recent road accident that purportedly happened when the victim was driving their van.

The husband, a 50-year-old delivery driver, was upset because his wife had allegedly been operating the vehicle without a driver’s licence.

“They were quarrelling about the issue when the victim told her husband she wanted to jump out.

“Then she jumped out of the vehicle,” Rusdi told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Like nothing happened

The 44-year-old victim, who hailed from Ipoh, landed on the road near the Awan Besar rest area and was killed on the spot.

Rusdi said the husband did not even stop the van after the incident.

Instead, the man, with whom the victim had three children, drove back to their house and acted like nothing had happened.

Police had to track down the van to find out that it belonged to the husband and notified him about the death.

Rusdi said police detained the husband and are investigating him under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence, as he did nothing to prevent the incident.

“He should have at least slowed down the vehicle when his wife said she wanted to jump out.

“After the incident, he should have stopped there instead of driving home,” he said.

The police chief noted that the police investigation has to rely on the victim’s injury report and her husband’s statement, as there was no CCTV at the location.
