'Building a better Sabah': Bung lauds BN-Harapan pact for state polls

Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin lauded the BN and Pakatan Harapan leadership after both coalitions officially announced that they would join forces for the upcoming state polls.

Bung said that in light of the current political reality, maturity and sincerity are needed to create stability.

“Hence, we choose to join hands not only to win the election but also to build a better and organised Sabah,” the Kinabatangan MP said in a statement today.

Earlier today, BN and Harapan announced a pact to face the upcoming 17th Sabah state election.

The decision was revealed in a statement jointly issued by Harapan secretary-general, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and the unity government secretariat head, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. The former also serves as Umno secretary-general.

“A high-level leadership meeting between Harapan president Anwar Ibrahim and BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on May 8 reached a consensus to cooperate in facing the Sabah state election.

“The form of the cooperation, including matters of seat allocation and negotiations with any other parties, will be jointly detailed by the Sabah state leaderships of Harapan and BN.

“All decisions will be finalised by the top leadership of Harapan and BN at the national level,” the statement reads.

Spirit of consensus

On that note, Bung said Sabah BN and Harapan would scrutinise the matter, including matters on seat allocation and how to deal with other parties that may wish to align with them.

The former Sabah deputy chief minister also stressed that all decisions will be made in the spirit of consensus, as decided by both coalitions’ top leadership.

“And Sabah BN will activate our entire machinery and give 100 percent commitment to face the 17th state elections as a united, matured, and credible team.

“This is not only about winning… It’s about winning with dignity and getting people’s trust,” he added.
