PKR vice-presidential hopeful R Ramanan today cried dirty politics after a video of him handing a person some cash went viral on social media.

According to the Sungai Buloh MP, the video was from 2023 and claimed the recipient was an employee of his.

Speaking to reporters after an event, Ramanan believed the video was manipulated by his political opponents as PKR is nearing its central leadership council election.

“That is my own employee, what is wrong with that?” he asked, as quoted by news portal Free Malaysia Today.

It is understood that the 37-second video clip started going viral yesterday. It showed a man counting cash in his hand before walking towards another individual and handing him some of the bills.

The video was accompanied by a caption in Malay saying: “An individual who looks like a Selangor PKR MP counts and gives cash. Is this the reformasi culture by a ‘parti derita’ (poor party)?”

Ramanan reportedly told reporters that the incident happened after the Selangor state election in 2023.

The deputy entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister criticised those who tried to use the video against him as stooping.

“It’s really disgraceful if we stoop to dirty politics like this. This is slander.

“There’s a party election happening now, so things like this will be twisted and manipulated,” he said.

Ramanan is among 12 candidates who are running for PKR vice-president posts.
