The launch of the Ovarian Cancer Society Malaysia (OCSM) and its revolutionary Returning Ovarian Cancer Survivors to Activities of Daily Living through Movement (Roam) in Petaling Jaya yesterday wasn't just an event.

It was a powerful testament to resilience and hope, and an emotional embrace of life after cancer.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, after launching Roam, Malaysia’s first programme using a natural movement-based rehabilitation, echoed the government's commitment to a healthier Malaysia.

Yeoh also said her ministry has pledged RM30,000 for the programme, designed to empower survivors through the very essence of human capability: natural movement.

Picture women who have faced the unimaginable, rediscovering the simple joy of walking, bending, and reaching - movements many of us take for granted.

"Roam isn't just about physical recovery; it's about reclaiming dignity and reconnecting with life," said Yeoh.

She added that Roam aligns seamlessly with the ministry’s objectives, where sport and movement serve not only to achieve athletic success but also to restore health, strengthen identity, and reconnect individuals with their communities.

"OCSM represents more than just an organisation; it is a powerful voice for those who have long been unheard and a beacon of hope for women navigating this silent disease.

"We are proud to champion this initiative, which empowers women to recover with dignity and return to everyday life with renewed strength and confidence," Yeoh said.

More than support

In collaboration with Breakfree, Malaysia’s pioneering MovNat facility, the programme added a unique dimension to the campaign.

Forget sterile physiotherapy rooms; envision a space where movement is intuitive, where mindfulness meets muscle memory, allowing survivors to move not just without pain, but with newfound confidence.

"OCSM promises more than just support. They are a voice, an advocate, a community rallying for education, robust support systems, and policies that prioritise the well-being of women," Yeoh further said.

Roam, she added, is their bold first step, a movement - quite literally - towards empowering survivors to live fully, proving that even after the toughest battles, life doesn't just go on, it can thrive.

For survivor Joselyn Pang, the programme launch wasn’t just an event.

"The atmosphere was charged with emotion, a palpable blend of gratitude, determination, and the sheer joy of witnessing hope take tangible form.

"This wasn't just a launch; it was the start of a powerful journey," said Pang.
