Nurul Izzah Anwar has officially won the deputy presidency race in the PKR election, defeating incumbent Rafizi Ramli.

The results were announced by party election committee chairperson Dr Zaliha Mustafa, and were greeted with jubilant chants of “reformasi” during the PKR national congress at the Persada International Convention Centre tonight.

She said Nurul Izzah garnered 9,803 votes but did not disclose the votes garnered by Rafizi. There are about 15,000 delegates voting in-person and online in the election.

Rafizi left the venue after the night’s proceedings without addressing the media.

Earlier, before the opening of the national congress, Malaysiakini quoted several party sources claiming that Rafizi has lost the party election.

Nurul Izzah’s allies Amirudin Shari and R Ramanan won the vice-presidency race with 7,955 and 5,895 votes respectively.

This was followed by Aminuddin Harun (5,889 votes) and Chang Lih Kang (5,757), both of whom are seen as being in Rafizi’s camp.

There were 12 candidates vying for the four elected vice-president posts.

Those who lost are:

  • Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Natural resources and environmental sustainability minister)

  • Sim Tze Tzin (Bayan Baru MP)
