Jovian to be questioned in MACC probe into Ismail Sabri

Fashion designer Jovian Mandagie will provide a statement in Jakarta, Indonesia, next month to assist the MACC with its probe into former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said his officers have gotten in touch with Jovian, who is Ismail Sabri’s former son-in-law.

“Yes, my officers have managed to get in touch with him (Jovian).

“We expect to record his statement a few days after the Hari Raya Haji celebration,” Azam told Harian Metro today.

Jovian married Nina Sabrina Ismail Sabri in 2013, and the couple divorced in 2023.

Azam reportedly said last week that Ismail Sabri named Jovian as a witness during a previous questioning session to confirm the declaration of assets submitted to MACC.

Last Thursday (May 22), Azam said Jovian will be quizzed partly to verify some of the assets declared by Ismail Sabri.

The MACC chief also said the Bera MP had submitted his declaration to MACC on Feb 10.

The anti-graft body expects to wrap up the probe by the end of June and forward their findings to the deputy public prosecutor for a decision.

When asked if the agency would propose criminal charges against the former prime minister, Azam said they would make such a suggestion if investigators find enough “elements” to prosecute Ismail Sabri.

Ismail Sabri is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

It is understood that the probe is related to the expenditure and procurement of funds for promotional activities under the Keluarga Malaysia initiative during his tenure as prime minister from August 2021 to November 2022.
