Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is disappointed that Manchester United failed to clinch the Maybank Challenge Cup after losing 1-0 to Asean All-Stars at the Bukit Jalil Stadium last night.

Anwar, who is a diehard Red Devil, was in the stadium cheering his favourite team.

Taking to Facebook to air his frustration, the prime minister raised fears of the club’s prospects in the next season.

“Oh no! Manchester United failed to win the trophy again. It’s really frustrating for you all next season. Hopefully, they won’t get relegated to the Championship.

“Congratulations Asean All Stars, you guys are really awesome!!!” he posted.

The last time United was relegated was after the 1973-74 season. Their time in the second division coincided with Anwar’s detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

This season, United finished 15th in the Premier League with 42 points, marking what is widely regarded as the club’s worst campaign since that relegation year.

They also lost the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham in Bilbao, missing out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Following last night’s match, boos echoed throughout the stadium.
