A PKR leader has ticked off Bersatu MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan for calling Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim narcissistic over the branding of the Kota Madani project.

In a statement, PKR central leadership council member G Sivamalar claimed the Tasek Gelugor MP was wrong in his criticism as the “Madani” brand was not about any individual but is the core of today’s government policies.

“Kota Madani is not Kota Anwar,” she stressed.

Yesterday, Wan Saiful, in a Facebook post, slammed the government for branding a high-density vertical township project in Putrajaya as Kota Madani.

Calling for an end to the practice of using administrative slogans as names for government initiatives, the Bersatu leader highlighted the potential waste in public funds when such labellings have to be changed under a new administration.

According to Sivamalar, Wan Saiful’s statement showed his ignorance of urban development policies and was a cheap political stunt.

“The name ‘Madani’ was not coined to worship any individual, but it is the core to today’s administration policies.

“Madani is an acronym of words that reflect sustainability, care and compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity, and confidence as the main core values under the Malaysia Madani policy, which focuses on good governance, inclusive development, and the rakyat’s wellbeing.

“It is embarrassing when an MP could belittle the country’s philosophy that is based on good values just to score some political mileage,” she said.

Instead of criticising the project, Sivamalar said Wan Saiful should be supportive of Kota Madani as it provides a concrete solution to housing woes faced by civil servants working in Putrajaya.
