Activists organise nationwide roadshow to protest Beng Hock case NFA

The Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBH-ADA) and other civil society groups will be organising a series of forums nationwide.

This is to protest the Attorney-General's Chambers’ decision to classify the probe into Beng Hock's death as no further action (NFA).

"We sincerely urge all justice-loving citizens, civil society and political activists to attend the forums. Let us resist forgetting, rekindle memory, and call back justice - together," TBH-ADA said in a statement today.

Thus far, two forums have been confirmed.

The first will be held at the Penang Continental Hotel in George Town on Sunday, June 22. This will be followed by a forum in Malacca at the Melaka Chinese Assembly Hall on Friday, July 11.

Beng Hock's sister, Teoh Lee Lan will be speaking at both forums alongside other civil activists.

The association said more forums will be organised.

In 2009, Beng Hock, an aide to then-Selangor state executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead after overnight questioning at Selangor MACC, which was then headquartered at Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam.

A 2011 Royal Commission of Inquiry ruled that he was driven to suicide due to aggressive interrogation.

However, in 2014, the Court of Appeal ruled his death was caused or accelerated by unlawful acts, including those of MACC officers.

Last year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pledged to the family that the case would be investigated thoroughly.

However, in May the AGC ultimately classified the case as NFA.
