One of the vehicles believed to be involved in the abduction of Pamela Ling was found abandoned near the Thai border several weeks ago, according to her family’s legal representative.

However, there has been no meaningful update from the authorities, said lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo.

She revealed that Ling’s family was informed of the vehicle’s discovery weeks after her abduction on April 9, yet police have reportedly failed to provide updates on the forensic analysis of items found inside the car.

“Given the obvious possibility that she was taken across the border, the family was last informed (a few weeks ago) that Interpol had not yet been alerted – what is the police waiting for?” she asked in a statement today.

Ling, a key witness in a money laundering investigation, was abducted in Putrajaya while en route to the MACC headquarters to provide information.

Her Grab car was allegedly blocked by five other vehicles near the premises.

Sangeet further pressed the authorities on the case, asking, “Have MACC officers been thoroughly questioned?

“Have the police determined the nature of information that Ling was providing to MACC and who the interested parties were? Have statements been taken from them?”

On Saturday, Ling’s lawyer N Sivananthan, said the police had informed him that there are still no leads into her whereabouts or what may have happened to her, despite the existence of CCTV recordings capturing the abduction.

Police don’t seem to care?

Sangeet also cast doubt on whether the police were adhering to proper protocols in investigating a missing person case or whether they had sought assistance from experts.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that the police have not taken this disappearance seriously, nor are they interested in genuinely investigating it.

“Selective investigations, where some cases receive attention while others are quietly ignored, are a denial of basic rights,” she said.

“While the authorities wait for yet another suspicious disappearance in this country to go cold and be forgotten, the public must widely question and condemn such blatant and selective inaction,” she added.

On May 8, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa told a press conference that investigators had obtained CCTV recordings from the scene, which showed at least eight individuals involved, including two who wore police vests.

He said the suspects were believed to be impersonating police officers. Investigators also produced a photofit of one suspect, but he admitted it was of poor quality.

Police had also arrested Ling’s husband to assist investigations, however, he was released the next day after police failed to secure a remand order.
